My name is Dan and I am the Development Associate, AmeriCorps VISTA for John XXIII. I have had many exciting projects during my time at John XXIII, one of which has yet to be revealed. I have teamed up with a co-worker named "Ian" to create a promotional/informational DVD for all to see.
John XXIII has celebrated 20 years in a number of ways, one of which - a technological facelift. Let's see, there is a new Website! (http://www.johnxxiii.org/) that is attractive and easy to navigate. There is a new YouTube site! (http://www.youtube.com/JohnXXIIIHIVAIDS) where we have made some new friends and added some of our PSA's. There is a new Blog site! (You’re reading it), where we have been able to share what is REALLY going on at John XXIII. And the most exciting (to me) is the new DVD!
A few months ago, Sara (Development Director) and I decided it would be great for John XXIII to have a different way to reach out to the community - a way for John XXIII not only tell people what we do, but to show them. Creating a DVD was our answer and so it began. Master-mind Ian and I met and have never looked back. We attended AMP classes and have been shooting for weeks. We have spent time at the Education and Prevention office, all over Monterey county, and many other locations to get the shots that will truly illustrate John XXIII.
So, in December (tentative DVD completion date) will the "technological facelift" be finished? Maybe, Maybe not, but for now the project is the DVD. And we hope you continue to read our blog and check out the DVD when complete.
Cheers!
Dan

Community Health Outreach Worker Volunteer Update
I promised in my last post to provide an update to our highly successful Community Health Outreach Worker Volunteer Training. So, here it is. 23 talented, committed and energenic community members completed their training and are now successfully integrated into HIV Education and Prevention programming.
Some hook up with staff to deliver street outreach, Others manage the front desk of our Education and Prevention office providing a friendly face to those we serve. More than a few distribute safer sex supplies and information througout the community. And some are preparing to participate in bar and nightclub outreach.
So there ya go. Our crew has expanded again to meet the needs of our commuity. Effective HIV Education and Prevention saves lives and makes our neighborshoods a better place. Stay tuned to my next post where I'll talk about something totally different.
Be well,
Katherine
