The Power of Community Outreach Workers

Greetings!

My name is Katherine and I am the Executive Director of John XXIII HIV/AIDS Services. Our very "tech-savvy" staff member, who goes by the name of Dan, just clued me into our new blog. I thought I would give it a whirl and blog a little bit today.

Tomorrow our HIV Education and Prevention Department will conduct a CHOW training. CHOW stands for Community Health Outreach Workers. The majority of these special volunteers come to us from a local college and will help with outreach work upon completion of the training. They will work side by side with staff to distribute free condoms and safer sex information, learn all about the health promotional value of syringe exchange and conduct education with various populations at risk of HIV infection. I can't say enough about the value of their efforts!

I'll blog again to tell you exactly how many CHOW's were trained and the assignments they will fulfill. Thanks for reading and take special care.
